Winter ride

Last Sunday I went for a ride in the forest. The weather was nice and there was a lot of snow. I was very excited because this was my first real snowy ride this winter.

My excitement turned into a struggle to move forward in the big and wet snow. I was moving as fast as a snail :).

As i got I out of the forest the view was great. On one side of the hill there was a big cover of fog in the valley, on the other side there were some nice hills covered with trees and snow.

awesome white rim :)
I didn't want to go back in the forest because I was very tired so I decided to go home on the tarmac. Just before arriving home I had the idea to climb the hill above the city.

The view of the city was worth climbing the hill. after that I arrived home with my ice pedals and wet clothes from a lot of sweat.

First ride in the snow

Sunday I went for a short ride in the forest, it was the first ride in the snow this winter. It was so much fun that I can't wait for the next chance for another ride. Sadly my battery was dying so I couldn't take pictures but at least I could record the ride :)

PS: I was so busy lately that I forgot that 4 years have passed since I started this blog...

One more winter ride

Last Sunday I went for a ride in the forest. Last week the temperature was high so most of the snow has melted and there was a lot of mud. Before the weekend it started to snow and on Saturday a few centimeters of snow was covering the mud. I hoped that there is enough snow so I went for a ride.
There was enough snow in the forest so it was a nice ride. It was slippery because of the wet snow and soe mud but it was a lot of fun.
My bike computer is not working so I don't know the statistics of the ride, but it was about 20 km long and way too much fun :)
This was probably the last snowy ride, spring is just around the corner.

At home

Last Friday I flew home for the weekend. Monday morning, before the flight back I went out for a ride. I like to ride in autumn because I like those beautiful colors.
The forest was a little sad but the weather was nice. It was a nice test ride, I was testing my post season legs, I had a very long break, about a month since the last ride and I was testing my new tires also.

At the last race I destroyed my Race Kings (the post about the last race is coming soon) and I had a set of Town and Country under the bed. I wanted to bring the bike to Berlin so I thought it would be a good choice especially that I wanted to bring the trainer to.
They are pretty good tires. If you need a tire that is good on the tarmac (this is very fast) and sometimes you want to go in the fores this is a good choice. I slipped a few times but the tires helped a lot and I didn't fell. What I don't like about these tires is the comfort. I don't think that I will buy a new set after this one. The Race King is more comfortable and it is very fast on the road and pretty good in off road. I think that the main difference is that the Town and Country is more durable than the Race King.
This was the first time in the forest after my bike had a little upgrade. I had to change the cassette and the chain because it had over 6000 km and the chain started to jump. I also had to change the middle chainring and the rear hub. The Cassette is XT and the chain is XTR. After the first pedals I could feel the difference, before I had Deore :)

PS: If somebody says that the bike makes only your legs stronger is a liar because all my muscles area little stiff now :)

Ride & Praid

Last Sunday we went for a short(about 30km) ride. We went up in the forest to the Zoo and then all the way to Sanisor. We had some mechanical problems on the way and a flat tire to but it was a fun ride with some great views.
After the ride I went to Praid where I saw a lot of salt.
More the pics here.

Yesterday I went for a ride to test my new tires on the tarmac. I knew they are fast (as I said here) but I wanted to see how fast they really are. I went for a ride to Acatari, about 20 kilometers with two climbs. The tires are very fast, my average speed was 27 km/h and the maximum speed was just above 60 km/h.
Before the last climb I saw two bikers folowed by a yellow car with a LIVESTRONG logo on the trunk. I think this is what you can call riding with style :)

How to survive a bear attack

When I was riding on the Bekecs peak I heard some noises in the forest. Maybe it was a bear... Here are some tips to avoid a bear attack:

Taking the Dog for a walk

Sunday I took the dog for a short walk, about 6 kilometers, half of it uphill up to the forest above Tarnaveni. He was so tired at the end that he didn't want to come home with me (I was with my bike). Here are some pics:
I always loved this view

How to get to a very high speed on two wheels?

There are three thing you need (I presume you have good skills, you can handle a bike at a very high speed):

1. a good bike, it's better if you have a road bike because the tires count if you want a really high speed

2. a hill, on a good hill you can get up to about 60 km/h (I got up to 67,2 two days ago)

3. a truck, or a van, a big vehicle, this helps to reduce drag, you just have to get behind it and basically you can go with the same speed - be very careful, this is very dangerous, if the vehicle brakes hard there is a chance that you hit it, or if you get out of the vehicle's protection the wind will hit you very hard

I have done this a couple of times and I got up to about 70 km/h but this is very dangerous, don't try this unless you have a good bike, good skills and you know the road :)

I've missed the road

It's been a long time since I had the chance to go for a ride. It was raining and snowing for a way to long time. I've missed the road a lot but today the weather was pretty ok, there were about 5 degrees Celsius so I went for a ride to Acatari. At the beginning it was warm enough but when I got out of the city it was a little colder and the wind got stronger, my hands were frozen on the way back home :(

There is still some snow left on the hills and in the woods but the road was dry. Here are some pics from today:

Stats:
    - time: 56:43
    - distance: 23,06 km
    - avg speed: 24,4 km/h
    - max speed: 51,4 km/h (at this speed the wind was very strong and the air got very cold so it was a little hard to breathe)

After the ride I enjoyed some delicious home made spaghetti. More pics from the ride and with the spaghetti here.
