A walk in the snow

Today when i woke up it was snowing :D  Usually when I'm at my parents and I don't have my bike here I go for a walk with my dog. I was happy it was snowing because I don't like the mud....

It was a short walk because my socks got wet :D  We just climbed up to the forest and I took some pictures and we walked home. We were gone for about one and a half hours that's about 6-7 kilometers. On the way up two big dogs came after us. There are some things you can to do when dogs come after you, the most important thing is don't be afraid and don't run. If  you pick up something from the ground they get scared, even if it is just snow. You can even shout :) After they have stopped you can slowly go away. If they are small dogs you just have to shout and you can attack them :D

Here are some pictures:

Merry Xmas in Specialized style :)

In the snow on Sunday

Sunday I went for a ride to my other favorite spot, in the woods to Acăţari. It was colder then on Saturday and it was snowing. The trail was ok at the beginning, there were some tire tacks. The last half of km I had to push the bike  because the snow was to big and the tire tracks were old.

Stats:
    - time: 1:51:01
    - distance: 15,02 km
    - avg speed: 8,1 km/h

    - max speed: 23,7 km/h

First Snow

It's finally Saturday! I was waiting for this day since it started snowing, I wanted to go for a ride in the white forest :D

The weather was ok, it was just under 0 Celsius. When i got to the forest it was a  pleasant surprise that people were using the trail, there were some atv tire marks all over the forest. This was good because the snow was to big, when I went into the fresh snow I was instantly slipping :)

The trail was slippery were the snow was big and were the climb was steep. After some slipping and pushing I got to the top of the hill.

There was a guy with a dog in the forest so i asked him to take a picture of me :)  The snow on my favorite training trail was a bit bigger so it was more slippery and more fun :D

I hope I can go again for a ride and I will put in my bottle hot tea because the water was a little frozen when I got home :D

Stats:
    - time: 1:14:43
    - distance: 12,09 km
    - avg speed: 9,7 km/h

Christmas songs (old and new)

How to color you knee?

We went for a ride on Saturday. The weather was ok for riding. But when we got to the forest the trail was muddy and slippery. The bike was all over the place o the downhills and on the climbs the tires were struggling for some traction. On a slippery descent the rear wheel slipped and i hit my knee with the bike. It was so painful... After a few km the pain went away but after a few hours my left knee was swollen and it was colorful (mainly red and blue). A few pics from the road:

It's good to see other people in the forest :)

It's still snowing

I never thought it could be so much fun coming to work :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Nabb gets into the Christmas spirit

The first real snow in town

It is not so much but it was enough for a little drifting fun on the bike. I never had so much fun coming to work :D

Blogger pack

To make life easier I modified two js scripts to work with Blogger, the __Emoticon.js and the lightbox.js. The __Emoticon.js is a cool script for adding emoticons(smileys) to your blog. I modified it to make all the links open  in a new window and all the pictures open n in a lightbox when you click on them. These thing were already happening on my blog but I always had to edit the html :(

But now everything is done by my blogger_pack :D

You can use these files only by including them on your blog or downloading and modifying them.

This is how you can do this (if you dowload the files to another server change the links - http://www.kibadvertising.ro):

You need to put these right after "<head>" in the template file:

<script src='http://www.kibadvertising.ro/blogger_pack/js/prototype.js' type='text/javascript'/>
<script src='http://www.kibadvertising.ro/blogger_pack/js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects,builder' type='text/javascript'/>
<script src='http://www.kibadvertising.ro/blogger_pack/lightbox.js' type='text/javascript'/>
<link href='http://www.kibadvertising.ro/blogger_pack/css/lightbox.css' media='screen' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'/>

Your template file should end like this (if you have a custom template and you have changed the class names please use those):

</body>
<script type='text/javascript'>
addSmileyById("comments-block");
addSmileyByClass("post hentry");
</script>
</html>

A dream came true (Part 2)

Continuing from here....

So we arrived at Bâlea Waterfall as you can see on the map (which I found on bikemap.net). There we left the bikes outside and we went in for a cup of hot tea :)

After a short rest we hit the road again. The road was closed and the view got better after each corner.

The last 5-6 kilometers were on snow. This is were the climb got harder. At first it was a lot of fun but the last few kilometers were a little hard, especially the last km were the snow was bigger so I had to let some air out of the tires.

At the Bâlea Lake we left the bikes outside and went in to warm up and eat something. After that we took some pictures and started the descent because it started to get dark.

Stats(Bâlea Lake):
    - time: 2:58:03
    - distance: 32,43 km
    - avg speed: 10,9 km/h

The descent was cool. It was slippery and long so I got tired. But when I got to the dry road it was a lot of fun again :D

The best thing was that the road was closed and I could cut the corners as I wanted, another dream came true. Since I saw how the pro riders cut the corners on the TdF I wanted to cut the corners like that. There was a little fog on the way  and it even rained a little and half of the descent was in the dark (at the waterfall I had to mount my lamp) but it was one of the coolest descents :D

Stats:
    - time: 4:02:24
    - distance: 63,81 km
    - avg speed: 15,7 km/h

    - max speed: 54 km/h (I didn't have my tires inflated)

This was one of the coolest rides this year and I hope I will climb that mountain many more times :)

A dream came true (Part 1)

Last year in the summer I was looking at pictures of the Merida 904 and some pictures of the Transfăgărăşan. I was dreaming of climbing this mountain and I wanted the bike. I bought the bike last year but I failed to conquer the mountain. I hoped to make my dream come true this year. But the summer passed and I gave up. Then I found out that there is a tradition, the forum from ciclism.ro is organizing the "Last climb on Transfagarasan" each year in the first weekend of December. A friend was going with the car so I had a ride :D

"The Transfăgărăşan or DN7C is the highest and most dramatic paved road in Romania. Built as a strategic military route, the 90 km of twists and turns run North to South across the tallest sections of the Carpathian Mountains, between the highest peak in the country, Moldoveanu, and the second highest, Negoiu. The road connects the historic regions of Transylvania and Wallachia, and the cities of Sibiu and Piteşti.

The road climbs to 2,034 metres altitude. The most spectacular route is from the North. It is a winding road, dotted with steep hairpin turns, long S-curves, and sharp descents. The Transfăgărăşan is both an attraction and a challenge for hikers, cyclists, drivers and motorcycle enthusiasts alike. Due to the topography, the average speed is around 40 km/h. The road also provides access to Bâlea Lake and Bâlea Waterfall.
The road is usually closed from late October until late June because of snow. Depending on the weather, it may remain open until as late as November. It may also be closed, at times, because of weather conditions (it occasionally snows even in August).

It has more tunnels (a total of 5) and viaducts than any other road in Romania. Near the highest point, at Bâlea Lake, the road passes through the longest road tunnel in Romania (884 m).

The northern section is used as a part of yearly cyclist competitions Tour of Romania . The difficulty of this section is considered to be very similar to Hors Categorie climb (literally beyond categorization) in Tour de France." (copy-pasted from Wikipedia)

Being the highest paved road in Romania it is biker heaven :) A lot of amateur and professional bikers climb this mountain every year. And with a little luck it can be climbed even in the winter when the road is closed. Top Gear visited Romania this year and rated it "The best road in the world" :)

The Adventure begun on Friday. We went to Cârţişoara were we met the others and were we had reserved a room. We had a few drinks and went to sleep early (@3am). On Sunday we met in the center of the village at 11am.

We had 19 km to our first pit stop at the Bâlea Waterfall. The climb started only after a few kilometers but is wasn't so special. It wasn't so hard, it was a little long. At first it was a road in the woods than some rocks appeared and the view got better and better.

Stats(Bâlea Waterfall):
    - time: 1:27:37
    - distance: 19,16 km
    - avg speed: 13,1 km/h

To be continued.......

Edit: Continued here.
