World Carfree Day

This is a very important week,  the European Mobility Week.

The European Mobility Week is an awareness raising campaign aiming at sensibilising citizens to the use of public transport, cycling, walking and at encouraging European cities to promote these modes of transport and to invest in the new necessary infrastructures.

From 16 TO 22 SEPTEMBER 2010 the Mobility Week is the opportunity for European cities and towns to participate to the most widespread event on sustainable mobility.
The overall aim of the European Mobility Week campaign is to encourage public awareness of the need to act against pollution caused by the increase in motorised traffic in the urban environment. In fact, it is not just a question of fighting atmospheric pollution or noise but also of improving the quality of urban life.

Accordingly, that operation is centred on three types of measures, designed to:
- encourage the use of alternative forms of transport and travel other than private cars,
- raise awareness and inform city-dwellers of what is at stake so far as concerns long-term mobility in towns and the risks connected with pollution,
- show the town in another light thanks in particular to reduced motorised traffic within restricted areas.

There are many important manifestations taking place all over the world. In this important week there is an important day, the World Carfree Day.

Every September 22, people from around the world get together in the streets, intersections, and neighbourhood blocks to remind the world that we don't have to accept our car-dominated society.
This morning I came to work before 8 and the traffic was terrible. I was on my bike but there were so many cars that I could barely come out to the main street and than I had to use the sidewalk because the road was blocked. If I would use a car or a bus to come to work it would take at least twice as long to get in :)

This weekend there is another critical mass in Targu Mures :)

The recipe of the week

If I'm home in the weekend I have to cook up something :D

Sunday I've made grilled salmon on top of baby carrots. It's another simple dish (and it was delicious), all you need is some salmon file (about 150 grams per serving), some baby carrots (mine was frozen), a lemon, butter, olive oil and spices.

I've seasoned the fish with salt and pepper and some lemon juice and then I've cooked it in olive oil and butter (I couldn't decide which is better so I mixed them) for about 10 minute - it depends on how thick is the fish.

I've cooked the frozen baby carrots in water and I added butter, oregano, parsley and salt (I think I added some lemon juice to).

Serve with lemon slices:
Bon Appétit!
